This project is a private residence located in Wye River, a small coastal town located along the Great Ocean Road in Victoria.

The Original house was lost in the 2015 Bushfires, which destroyed many homes in the small town.
During the intense fires, all of the dense vegetation in the area was lost. This provided the opportunity to reconfigure the relationship between the dwelling and the view. Previously the view was frontal, framed by trees, the new design captures the horizontality of the expansive view.

The form of the proposed dwelling draws reference from many of the Surf Shacks which were lost in the fire. This is evident in the exploration of simple materials, rational forms and a careful carelessness that the original Beach Shack typology embodies.
